Pulrose Power Station, Isle of Man
Client: Manx Electricity Authority
Architect: Savage & Chadwick
Henshaw played a key role in the construction of the new Manx Electricity Authority gas-turbine power station in Douglas on the Isle of Man.
Central to the design of the project was Henshaw’s £1.8 million sub-contract to install a 3000 square metre double skin Planar™ structural glass wall, which spans up to 25 metres and encloses the turbine hall on the east and south sides.
The impressive glass wall is constructed with an internal and external skin comprising of 15mm heat soak tested toughened glass supported on a specially designed rod rigging system with stainless steel tension rods and brackets, all designed to meet the high design wind load of 3.3kN/M2.
